In the 1980s, orchestral concerts featuring video game music began appearing in Japan, laying the groundwork for video game music as a concert repertoire. The first European performances followed in the early 2000s, with a major milestone occurring in 2003, when Thomas Böcker produced the first Game Concert outside of Japan, at the Leipzig Games Convention. In 2005, large-scale professional touring productions such as Video Games Live further popularized orchestral video game music worldwide.
